Instructor of Record Feedback:
POLS 476 International Relations of East Asia: This class has made a significant impact on my academic journey at the University of Kansas. This instructor is uniquely able to teach in a way that is fun, engaging, and responsive, while also providing insights on complex and complicated material, ensuring students have acquired practical knowledge while encouraging them to seek the knowledge for themselves. The assignments are practical and there is no ineffectual "busy work." For me, the lectures and material was engaging enough that I did not need busy work to encourage me to come to class everyday. There is a variety of readings to support class discussions, such as government documents, news articles, and academic papers. Unlike some classes, these readings are directly related to the course and support meaningful discussion and deeper understanding. The instructor was always open to questions and was never afraid to admit he did not know the answer. However, when he did not know the answer, he would come prepared to the next class period with an answer. This was extremely meaningful to me and I think shows both great mutual respect, humility, and willingness to improve. This class did an excellent job of merging history, international relations, and current affairs, into a a practical, informative class that was truly one of my most enjoyable experiences this semester.
POLS 476 International Relations of East Asia: My favorite class I've taken so far. You can tell Tim is really interested in, and deeply cares about what he is lecturing about and heavily encourages engagement that is specific to our reading. Since the assignments are not difficult the class is easy, yet the quizzes always being given in class structurally motivates you to be at lectures (which are always really interesting.
POLS 476 International Relations of East Asia: The trade-war simulation was really helpful. I had never done one prior to this class and it was really good at showing me how high stakes bilateral negotiations work and how domestic policy shapes international relations.
